Where to go

A guide to what you'll find locally

White Egret is not only able to sleep a larger number of people for their holiday in the Algarve, it is also ideally situated on the borders of the Eastern and Central Algarve. If you want to visit neighbouring towns, explore the countryside, or even have a beach day, you couldn't be better placed - here's where we'll show you why.

White Egret Leisure also has a townhouse for a different style of holiday - a holiday immersed in the hustle and bustle of Olhão, with an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars all within a stone's throw from this rental property. If you are staying at White Egret, you may like to consider a night or two at the Stork's Nest... talk to us about it's availability, and click

Armona, Culatra and Farol beaches

Islands, villages, and miles of ocean and lagoon beach...

Take a leisurely 20 minute drive, (it's 13km), down to the coastal town of Olhão. There is a ferry which departs at the eastern end of the waterside gardens - it has a fixed timetable, hourly in the summer and half that in the winter months. You can whisk yourself quicker than the 20 minute crossing to Armona, if you take an aqua-taxi - ask at the booths for the next available ride.

There are three drop-off points - Armona, Culatra and Farol, and the journey times are about 20, 30 and 40 minutes. They each have small villages, with a few restaurants and some small places to buy essentials from. You can swim on the lagoon shore by the piers if you wish; explore the lagoon shoreline; or just head straight for the ocean beach. How much beach do you want ? Well, Armona has the longest beach - it runs on for miles until you come to the next point of access at Fuzeta. Everywhere in between, is essentially empty and it is all beautiful. Whether you want to sit with the umbrella crowd or do the Crusoe thing, you'll have a great day on either of the beaches.

Faro and Fuzeta beaches

Yes, Faro has a beach as well - it is signposted from the roundabout at Faro airport, and you can drive and park right near the sandy beach. It has bars and restaurants on the lagoon and ocean sides.

Fuzeta beach is worth a mention - it's only a 25 minute drive, at 18km from White Egret. It has a beautiful beach which is actually the other end of Armona beach - so you can walk between the two - along walk - but possible. It is also accessed by ferrys and aqua taxis
